As an avid Anker/Soundcore fan, I really wanted these to be the holy grail of cheap/great/well built true wireless earbuds. Sadly, despite what all of the Anker launch hype campaign would lead me to believe, they're too far from that right now. There's many flaws I am trying hard to overlook as I wear them, but they're not really better than my previous Libery Air 2 earbuds. Overall, despite objectively superior sound and bass over their predecessor, they feel unfinished and perhaps even rushed to market due to some obvious omissions.
I had the best customer service from Michelle at Anker/Soundcore. It seemed my first pair had a problem and she processed my request for help overnight. I received my replacement very quickly and she followed up to make sure I was happy. Sadly, that's when I knew the firmware was problematic. More on that later.
I must say everything I write here is valid as of today. I believe future updates will fix many issues these earbuds have. I'll try and update this review as needed.
The good:
-Solid sound. The bass is better and so is the treble. They sound warmer than the Liberty Air 2.
-The charging case is well built and has a solid mechanism. An improvement.
-It includes a legendary Anker USB-C charging cable. Yay!
-The earbuds have a premium finish. I like the brushed metal finish (even though the soundcore logo would have been enough. The whole brand name stamped on the side is a bit too ostentatious)
-I think the new touch control, despite being a bit less user friendly than the Liberty Air 2's, is much less subject to accidental skips/pauses.
-Great battery life given the extra draw of the ANC system. No need for more in real life use.
The less-good:
-The shape. Why? The Liberty Air 2 had a much longer tip and less bulbous main case. Obviously YMMV depending on your ears, but the fit is muuuuch worse for me. They don't go as deep in the ear canal and the L+ silicone tips' extra 0.5-1mm length help very little. They do hold ok but I find myself moving them often. The case is also thicker, which presses against the ear (google "ear concha cavum" and you'll figure it out). Would longer silicone tips help?
-It's somewhat weird to have omitted the APTX codec when making a superior sounding headphone.
-Endless. Clicking. And. Crackling. In. The. Left. Ear. I can't stand it and it's the reason why I use the headphone without the ANC most of the time. It might not be an issue for you if you listen to louder music like rock/metal/rap, but anything calmer/more folk-y will make it more obvious and you'll still hear it between the songs. That's where I think future firmware updates will have to improve.
Overall it's a good first try in the ANC world for Soundcore. There's some fairly big issues that need fixing but hopefully, in due time, they'll fix it if we ask nice enough. Do It Soundcore!!
*April 2021 update*
Michelle at Soundcore hooked me up with a set of extra tips. The "long" ones weren't any longer than the ones supplied with the buds initialy so there wasn't much use in them, but they did send me some very comfortable foam eartips. They feel better than the silicone ones in the ear and are much less prone to falling off. It's a good workaround to the shape of the earbuds.
On the firmware front, I have received on or two updates and I'm currently running 03.62, which hasn't fixed the crackling sound I mentioned in my initial review ( I might have to live with that one in a quiet setting....), but definitely shows Anker is commited in making th product better. They even brought the 1 tap controls from other headphones back! They're off by default, should you want to avoid accidental taps, which is a nice touch.
I'm upgrading my initial 3 stars to 4. Kepp up the good work, Soundcore!
I like the software that provides an equalizer & a variety of settings, esp. transparent, which enables you to hear other people talking to you & makes it safer to wear while bicycling or walking on city streets. That said, many cities make it illegal to ride a bike w ear buds in, and wearing them while crossing busy intersections is a good way to get dead. But if you insist on doing it, these would make it safer. Still dumb. There are EQ pre-sets for different musical genres & they seem appropriate. You can also create your own custom settings, or save changes to the default options. Different settings have quite noticeable effect. There are settings for spoken voice too, for podcasts, audiobook readings & phone conversations. For listening, I'd rate NC software a 5/5.
Voice conversations on cell phone are a whole other story & much less successful. Conversations always sound clear to me, but over half the time people on the other end complain & I have to remove the ear buds & speak directly on the phone, so I'd call that a fail: 2/5.
Comfort is only a 3/5. They're OK. They come with a huge array of soft rubber inserts that you'd think would assure a good fit. Not so. I've tried all of them. They feel OK-ish but not great, and there is no way I can stop them falling out. There's no way I'd trust these for outdoor use: I'd lose one on the first trip out. Suggestion to Anker: you need to offer an ear hook as an add-on or optional attachment. I won't trust another Anker ear bud product without that. Ear buds this good - and this expensive - must not just fall out!
Battery Life: Anker claims 7 hours. No way. I can eak out 2-3 of constant use; 4-6 if I'm working on the laptop & there's only sound 2-3 hours of it. The case supposedly has a battery that will boost useage to 26 hours if you pop them in for a recharge. First, that's beyond wildly optimistic. The case can't do one full recharge, much less 2-3. And recharging these isn't especially quick. Figure 203 hours for full recharge if the case is plugged in. Lithium batteries are a bit iffy in any product & a little inconsistent. Tiny ones like the batteries in ear buds are pushing the envelope. That said, Anker can't be delivering products with <50% of the battery performance promised. That's a fail & hurts their brand.
Speaking of which, Anker obviously cares about their brand. The Liberty Air 2 Pro ear buds are packaged like Apple used to. Anker has paid a great deal of attention to image and the unboxing experience, and the product itself appears well made & high quality. Attention to detail is remarkable, which is why I'm so disappointed by battery life & fit.
Overall, I'm more sold on Anker than on this particular product, though this is their top of the line ear buds & I had hoped for better. I will try their headphones.
Keep trying, Anker.
Update Sept 2022: battery performance got weaker over time; right-hand earbud failed completely. I'm glad I paid for Asurion's insurance policy at Amazon (recommended add-on): that call went flawlessly. If I purchase electronic goods at Amazon the insurance is a no-brainer. Factor that into the cost of the product.

Originally, I bought these headphones at the price of $120. When I got them I thought "hey, these are a pretty good value for earbuds with noise cancelling." When compared to normal airpods, I preferred the sound quality of these earbuds. Of course the pros were better in terms of features, and my Liberty 2s were comparable. For all other buds I listed these are much better in terms of sound quality. Let's get into the features:
Transparency mode: The normal mode makes your voice feel boomy because of hearing your voice conducted through your cheekbones, but the vocal only is pretty good. This is probably the mode that you see the most difference between these and airpods. It's not the best, but it's usable.
Noise Cancellation: Pretty good, blocks out low noise, high noises get through. My roommate snored very loudly and when playing music it was tolerable, but it wasn't enough by itself. However I wouldn't be surprised if listening to the snoring raw was damaging to my ears (yes I know noise cancelling doesn't combat pressure waves, just humor me). I swear I could hear that guy from across the building.
Sound Quality: Pretty good. I've owned the m50xs from audio technica and while the Soundstage is not nearly as good, for casual listening I find these enjoyable. What's great about them though I'd the soundcore app has a huge amount of eqs and a customizable eq so you can make it sound the way you want. Also, for Android it does have LDAC support.
Battery Life: After over a year of use, it's still pretty good. I get a little over a day of pretty constant listening, and if I go to bed forgetting them in my ears with the volume low I will wake up and some days they still are playing. So best case probably around 7 hours ish for the earbud with no noise cancelation no LDAC and low volume. When you turn all the features on though it definitely drops the battery life, probably to around 4 ish. However the case charges really fast.
I thought these were pretty good for $120. Now for $50 with a 25% coupon they're a great deal. I might update this review once I get my galaxy buds2 pros in a few days though.
(Edit)
I have had my buds 2 pros for a significant amount of time and I'll summarize the differences:
The transparency mode of the buds 2 Pro is significantly better, it feels much less stuffy.
The active noise cancelling of the buds 2 pros is marginally better but because of the size of the earbuds themselves the Liberty 2 pros offer more passive noise cancellation than the buds.
The size is a big difference for me as the buds 2 pros are much smaller and therefore much more comfortable to wear when laying down.
The sound quality of the buds 2 pros is noticeably better but not overwhelmingly so.
The buds 2 pros battery is actually worse than the liberty 2 pros.
However, the buds 2 pros are over $200 and the Liberty 2 pros can be found on sales for the price I stated originally. I do not think you get 4x the value for spending 4x the money, especially if you aren't a samsung mobile device user. There are some other features that the pros have (360 audio, find my buds) that to my knowledge the liberty 2 pros do not have, but the biggest thing that makes the Liberty 2 pros a great buy for the price is the customizability you have with the app, and solid performance for the price. Unless you have money to burn to get something that's maybe 1.5x as nice for 4x the money, I'd go with the liberty 2 pros. Yes, they are not the best in the market. But, they are still very solid and at a very steep discount compared to other buds.
The sound quality is great, they connect without any problem to any Bluetooth-supported equipment, and I particularly like that one can choose between different sound profiles (i.e., complete noise cancelling or allowing some environmental noise - the latter is good for e.g. being in traffic and not loose awareness to sounds). Sound quality of the microphone seems ok - phone/zoom calls are no problem, the receiver could hear me (however, I cannot state whether the microphone quality is really great or not).
So. These earbuds. First and foremost, no, you won't look weird wearing them. They actually look pretty discreet and like they're meant to be there. Mine are a dark grey, too.
Fitting - easy. They give you loads of "tips" to try on, just find what fits best. The app can test the "seal quality" too, but go with what's comfortable for you. Loads of choice. On the subject of fitting, I don't go running, so I can't tell you how they'd hang on. When walking or doing anything physical though, they just stay put and feel well rooted. I rarely need to adjust them, and when I do, I find it's pointless - they were secure in the first place.
Connectivity - simple, easy, and solid. I do get random cut-outs on my phone, but that's heavily modified and running a beta custom OS. A reboot solves it for a few days, so it's a glitch on the phone. My tablet is stock, and these are solid - even ten metres away. It's unbelievable. They've got a more stable connection than my Logitech G933s to my PS4.
Battery life. You charge the box, and it charges the buds up when not in use. Everything is extremely lightweight. I do a lot of walking, and use these for up to 90 minutes at a time. I've had the box go without charge for a week, and it charged back up in half an hour. The battery life is absolutely phenomenal.
Sound quality. That's the essential part. Now, this is a mixed bag for me, and you might find things a bit different. I have hearing issues, plus partial deafness in my left ear, extending only to bass frequencies. Anything that muddles sound means I find it really grating, and I can't hear lyrics. It's just noise.
These earphones excel. When you take them out the box and seat them in your ears, there's a few seconds while they boot up, then glorious silence. They just shut the world out. Fire up a high-quality stream or source, and you've got a tight, rich soundstage. The "HearID" setup is great, but I did tweak it further - the app is great for that - but if they'd add the ability to tweak individual channels and/or psychoacoustic systems, that'd be cracking for those whose ears aren't working quite right!
You'll have no problem getting what you want from these earbuds, they're rich across the range. I do find they're a bit harsh at the treble end, and not as clear and "spacey" as the Soundmagic E10s, but it's nothing uncomfortable. I'm just splitting hairs here.
Other matters - no more wires. Honestly, I didn't think anything of wires until I got these. I wouldn't go back... In fact, even though I have a perfectly serviceable set of these earbuds, I'd consider splashing out on the very best version right now in addition to this pair. One set for home used with my tablet, the better pair for general use. That's how damn good these are.
I bought these at £129, and I see they're presently £99. I don't have any regrets buying them at the price I paid - they're quality, and worth every penny.
